The Day I was Bored in Class

Just one of those days when I kept looking at my watch waiting for the time to go by and realized it would go by far quicker if I just started drawing the watch instead…

New Years in West Virginia

We sat around and enjoyed the last day of the old year in front of the TV. It was the perfect opportunity to draw the back of friends’ heads.

I have a brand new phone to kick off the new year and with it I am writing the first post of 2011! Using a wordpress app for android and a built-in camera I can now post on-the-go! It’s very exciting!

CD cover in progress

September 20th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Here are some progress shots of my current project: a CD cover for my friend Ben.
I started with a sketch from a freeze frame of Ben’s music video. Then I made a few copies to try different looks and styles. This could be considered either smart or lazy, but I’m just too scared to make a mistake on the original sheet so I explore different ideas on the copies instead. Sounds like additional work, but in the end it actually saves me time.
***I think when using a computer they call this process “layers.”  :P  ***
A fine example is the version with the black hair (not a fan) but I do like part of the typography that I’m playing around with. So I am going back to the original and leaving the hair as just ink outlines.

Now I’m thinking about adding yellow to the background…
guess it’s time to make another copy and more trial and errors along with it.

Still Life #2

Another still life painting I recently found. Did this in my last semester of school.
If my memory serves me right, those bell peppers were probably made of plastic. Come to think of it, in all my years of art classes I don’t think we ever used anything outside of plastic props. Nothing was ever actually  from “life” in our still lives.

Done in acrylic.

Invitation Design

September 14th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

I designed this invitation last spring for my best friend’s bridal shower.

I figured if I’m already the one hosting it…

it would just be lazy for me to go out and buy invitations when I could get some much needed design practice out of making them myself!

Girl Drawing

Forcing myself to draw more often without planning what the outcome is going to be.

Looking at it now, the background flowers look like wings and it’s really annoying me.
I should just stick to planning it out first.
